Session 3 of the Open Access and Research Conference 2013 focuses on Advocacy and Advantage. Prof Stevan Harnad [University of Southampton, United Kingdom] presents "Open Access: A Short History of the Problem and Its Solution" in which he mentions that Queensland University of Technology adopted the world’s first university-wide green OA mandate in 2003. Iryna Kuchma [Electronic Information for Libraries, Ukraine] presents Open Access Advocacy in Developing and Transition Countries. She discusses best practices and lessons learnt from national and institutional open access advocacy campaigns to reach out to research communities in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe, highlighting key achievements, activities, advocacy strategies, tactics and tools, success stories and lessons learnt.
